LiO - the Liaison Office • The Technology Transfer Office of the University of Calabria • First organized activities in 2001 • Formally constituted in 2003 together with • University IPR and spin-off regulations • Rector’s delegate for TT • Coordinated by a civil servant • Staffed with 3 (part-time) external collaborators • Constantly growing • 7 permanent staff + 3 collaborators (<5 yrs exp)

Functions and activities • Diffusion of innovation culture • Communication • Networking • Development of a university-industry interface • Joint project development and mgmt • Valorisation of research results • Patents and IP management • Mentoring and Services for Spin Off and Start Up companies

Intellectual Property • University patents • 2003: No patents in portfolio • 2012: 61 patents / 18 agreements • 43 national, 9 EU, 6 International patents (PCT), 3 US. • 15 licensed patents, 3 assignments. • IPR services • Preliminary analysis, Patent mgmt • Brokerage, Licensing • Accredited for IP evaluation with MiSE

Spin-off and start-up creation • Start-up accelerator programs with scouting, training, mentoring, prizes • 2004: ORACOLO, coaching 10 ideas • 2006: ORACOLO2, coaching 10 ideas • 2007-11: CRESCITA • 1 accelerator program for 21 ideas • 1 start-up program for 18 companies • TechNest, the Academic Business Incubator • 2009-12: 4 Start Cup Calabria editions
