The beginning • The first gaming controller was the “Tennis for two” • Was created in 1958 • The controller consisted of metal box with one knob and a button. • The creator was William Higinbotham a nucleur physicist, it was original created for a science experment. • Improvements include: conforming to the hand, better button placement, motion sensing, and wireless

  4. Handheld • Mircovision was the first handheld gaming device • Was created in 1979 • Miltin Bradley was the creator of Mircovision • 9 inches in length, 3 inches in width and 1 inch in thickness. The screen was a 2 inch by 2 inch square, there are 3 bottons and a dial. • Improvements Include: conforming to the hand, better button placement, and motion sensing

  5. Innovation • The NES Max was the first controller that had wings. (Handles that extended off the edge of the controller for easier grip) • Was created in 1988 • Nintedo is the creator of NES Max • The NES Max’s wings was a huge evolutionary step forward in controllers. Many controllers after the NES Max copied its design. • Improvements include: conforming to the hand, better button placement, motion sensing, and wireless

The introduction of Motion Control • The Wii was the first major step in the motion gaming; many companies copied the idea of motion control including: Microsoft, and Sony. • Created in 2006 • Nintedo is the creator of the Wii • The Wii controller connects to the senor bar via infrared lights. • Improvements include: No controller

  7. “iOS” Gaming • Apple’s creation of the iPod touch created a whole new way to game • Created in 2007 • Apple is the creator of the iPod touch • The iPod touch was the introduction of iOS gaming which is a huge market now. • It has layers of electronic sensors that can tell when only the bare skin touches the screen • Improvements include: Faster processors, larger screens, added features.

  8. 55 years later… • Sony has taken features from all these controllers to make one very impressive piece of hardware. • Created in 2013 • Sony is the creator of the dual-shock 4 • The dual-shock 4 features include: wings, motion control, touch pad, blue tooth connection with Sony’s handheld device (PS Vita) • Improvements include: N/A
