  2. Some Good News Graduation Rates Rise Despite Tougher Standards Requirements tightened: 5 Regents Passing Grade – 55 to 65 Grad Rate has grown from 69%- 74%

  3. Our Challenge Graduating All Students College & Career Ready New York's 4-year high school graduation rate is 74% for All Students However, the gaps are disturbing. June 2011 Graduation Rate Calculated College and Career Ready* Graduation under Current Requirements *Students graduating with at least a score of 75 on Regents English and 80 on a Math Regents, which correlates with success in first-year college courses. But where to startLessons from the Common Core • Focus • We cant do it all, so choose those things that our data demands our attention to- attention which yields the highest rate of return for learning opportunities • Coherence • Map out how an effective RtI program is based in the Common Core; how assessments under a DDI approach fit within the SLO framework; how the data from assessments and EBO informs targeted professional development; how the measurement of PD informs program and budget choices • Rigor • High accountability, high support 10

  11. Focus on… Teaching and Leading What is our investment in professional development? How are we measuring the effectiveness of professional development? How is our professional development supported by research? Are we fostering a play, passion, purpose environment? Course offerings How are we leveraging technology? Are we investing in those courses which have the greatest rate of return? Communication What strategies have you developed to reach the community about the changes in instruction, assessment and learning? What does the community know about the Common Core? School finance How accurate is our per student expenditure report? What investments are we making that best ensure College and Career Readiness? Culture What is our district mindset? Fixed or growth? Do we accept and embrace “developing” teachers?
