Jing A Review By: Landon Williams
Basic Info • FREE version OR Snagit version ($50). • Download at www.techsmith.com. • Can be installed locally on Windows and Mac systems. - Window XP or later - Mac OSX 10.6.8 or later • Record and share screen capture as a video. • Capable of capturing screen shots
Getting Started • The Jing icon sits along the side of the screen until its ready to be used. • Hovering over the icon displays three options: • Capture • History • More
Screen Selection • The program allows the user to select the entire screen or part of the screen for recording. • This image shows the are that has been selected for capture
Reviews • “Pros: Easy to use in record mode. Cons: Difficult to playback (.swf). Couldn’t get flash to play it back. Summary: I’m going to look for a different one” (Fred_Fox). • “What began as a freeware project to easily share basic screen captures and screen recordings has grown into a solid application and capture distribution system” (Dolcourt).
Cons • Only allows 5 minutes of recording • Does not support camera recording • Does not allow changes to be made to the cursor • Cannot add text to video • Saves file as .swf format only Pros • FREE • Easy to learn and use • Provides url link for viewing the video (2GB free space) • Share video via Facebook, YouTube, Twitter, Flickr • Easily share a video by giving the URL • I rate Jing a 6 out 10 because it is missing important features. • TechSmith also offers a paid version call Snagit which has a lot more features and options.
