Henri Matisse. 1869-1954. Matisse Timeline. Born in Northern France in 1869. His parents were wealthy merchants. 1887-1888 he studies Law in Paris In 1889 he had a serious attack of appendicitis and that is when he discovered his love of art.

  2. Matisse Timeline • Born in Northern France in 1869. His parents were wealthy merchants. • 1887-1888 he studies Law in Paris • In 1889 he had a serious attack of appendicitis and that is when he discovered his love of art. • In 1891 he returned to Paris to Study art at the Acadmie Julian • He became part of the artistic movement “Fauvism” which lasted from 1904-1908. The term loosely translated to “wild beast” • 1941 Matisse is diagnosed with cancer and, following surgery, he begins to using a wheelchair.
