  8. Getting Started – Classic board • Out of the box • Plug it in • IBM = PS2 cable verses AT Cable • Mac = ADB • Daisy Chain with a mouse or keyboard port • Lights and sounds

The Set-up Overlay • Allows you to customize for different users • Keyboard reset = default settings • Slide the Setup Overlay onto Intellikeys • Listen for the beep • Press keyboard reset twice • Watch for indicator lights to flash • Press display features twice (on USB) • Remove the Setup Overlay

  11. Use Intellikeys with any Software • Standard word processor • Talking Word Processor • Keep in mind this is separate software, adds the speech feature. • Note pad or Simple Text • Favorite software ***think of it as your keyboard, it is just an alternate keyboard

  12. QWERTY Overlay • Standard Keyboard Layout • Contains all the keys you would find on a standard 101-key keyboard • Designed for comprehensive adult programs • Contains Features: • Num Pad • Access Mouse/Keyboard • Caps Lock/Num Lock Lights

  13. Set-up Overlay and Smart Typing • Helpful for slow typists • Automatically types certain characters to speed you up • To turn it on • Put set-up overlay in and turn smart typing on • Replace set-up overlay with Basic Writing Overlay • Try it out! Type a sentence with the word queen in it.

  14. Keyboard Repeat Feature • If you hold your finger on a key the keyboard repeat feature causes the key to be repeated. • To shut this feature off: • Slide Setup Overlay in place • Press Repeat Off (for PC only) • On Macintosh use the control panel, keyboard, repeat off

  15. Alphabet Overlay • Arranged in alphabetical order • Easy to read keys/use of color • Use it with any word processing program • Steps to use… • Open word processing program • Slide alphabetical overlay in • Listen for beep • Begin typing

  17. Basic Writing Overlay • Very similar to Alphabet Overlay • Contains may common computer keys • Designed to facilitate word processing • Alt/Command key for Mac and PC • Mac/Apple = Command or open apple • PC = alt key • M and K • Switches between mouse and keyboard ( above arrows)

Response Rate • Adjusts the time required to activate a key • Useful if a person tends to press unwanted keys or drags their arm across the keyboard • Change the Response Rate: • Put set-up overlay in • Press response rate number 10 (15 is default) • Put Basic Writing Overlay back in and try it • Replace set-up overlay and return to 15 • 1= slow response rate, 15 = rapid response rate

  19. Arrows Overlay • Useful for software programs that require use of the arrows, spacebar, and return, etc • Useful for “busy hands”

  20. Mouse Arrows • Allows the combination of the keyboard and the mouse with the touch of a finger • Activated on four Overlays but try with Arrows • To turn it on: • Put set-up overlay in place • Turn mouse arrows on • Put arrows overlay in • Note small icons on Y and N (drag and click)

  21. Mouse Pad • Built in on the Apple QWERTY • Lets you move the mouse in eight different directions • Can also adjust the speed of the mouse movement by using the set-up overlay

  22. Set-up Overlay Other Features • Touch Features • Response rate – slows response time of keyboard • Required Lift Off – must lift finger off before any other key will respond • Key sound – audio feedback when key is pressed

  23. Set-up Overlay Other Features • Repeat Features • IBM Repeat Rate – sets speed at which characters repeat • IBM Repeat – prevents keys from repeating • Repeat Latching – latches the next key until the keyboard is touched anywhere, allows user to watch the screen

  24. Set-up Overlay Other Features • Shift Features • Shift Key Action • Latching – latches for one keystroke • Locking – holds shift key on • No Latch – turns off latch • Indicator Lights • Three • six

Set-up Overlay Other Features • Additional features • Feature Reset – restores factory defaults • List Features -open word processor and press list • Mouse Arrows – arrows function as a mouse • Apple Mouse Speed - changes the speed of the mouse • Smart Typing – makes typing faster • Custom Overlay level –useful for changing switch settings • Data Send rate – used with custom overlays

  26. Set-up Overlay Other Features • Troubleshooting • Keyboard Reset – deletes custom overlays, clears memory • IBM Standard Keyboard Attached – for older keyboards • AT Arrows – for AT style PC for page up/down, etc
