  3. What is a QR code? Or “Quick Response Code” is a black and white square with an array of little boxes inside it. Each code is unique to a URL or web-based-document and can be “read” by a smartphone or tablet.

  4. Purpose/Goals of Project Mission: • Fuse place-based environmental education and technology together to enrich both curricula. • Provide the greater community with access to local resources. • Inform the greater community of the amazing things that our students are doing on our campus and why the students think that they are important.

  5. ISTE Standards for Students Standard #2 (a,c,d) - Digital Citizen Students recognize the rights, responsibilities and opportunities of living, learning and working in an interconnected digital world, and they act and model in ways that are safe, legal and ethical. Standard #3 (a,b,d) - Knowledge Constructor Students critically curate a variety of resources using digital tools to construct knowledge, produce creative artifacts and make meaningful learning experiences for themselves and others. Standard # 4 (a,b) - Innovative Designer Students use a variety of technologies within a design process to identify and solve problems by creating new, useful or imaginative solutions. Standard #6 (b,d) - Creative Communicator Students communicate clearly and express themselves creatively for a variety of purposes using the platforms, tools, styles, formats and digital media appropriate to their goals. Standard #7 (a,b,c) - Global Collaborator Students use digital tools to broaden their perspectives and enrich their learning by collaborating with others and working effectively in teams locally and globally. https://www.iste.org/standards/for-students

What We Have Done Created a website specifically for The Trail Project Resources Playground Rules are QR coded for families who use playground after school and school and for clarification at recess. Sixth grade was given an assignment to create QR codes for our new solar array. Maps were QR coded for easy access on phones when on trail. Link to active solar array Link to our weather station

  7. Where are we going? Adding links to kindergarten mountain History of trail names on campus Points of interest on trails Temperature in stream data Pulling in more grade levels and unified arts Grades 6-8 technology classes will be creating webpages and QR codes to add to site Investigating and purchasing signage for trails and outside areas.

Upcoming Projects Kindergarten, Grades 1, 2 - Garden Grade 1- Animals in winter Grade ¾ - Stream data from the 4 seasons Grade 5 - Nature Studies Middle School Math - cost benefit from recycling Middle school science - multiple projects Art - Trail Sketches Music - Compositions Sports Field - Dedications, Code of Conduct Writing Projects Tree Identification Points of Interest on the Trails - Beaver Pond, Erosion, Garfield Bridge, Animal Signs, Microburst Site

  9. How could your school/community use QR codes?

SNAFUs or “Trees in your Trail” • If using a website, make sure that your publish settings are for your target audience. • If using a doc, sheet, or slides make sure that you share with anyone with the link • Name and Save all working QR codes to a folder. • Most smartphones read QR codes with the camera but… some people (samsung users) may need to download a QR reader
