  2. What does Etiology mean? • Etiology is… • The causes that people suffer which lead to a certain disorder, such as specific events or traumas.

  3. What are some socio-cultural factors that may lead to depression? • Vulnerability of depression is based on a lot things that could affect the likelihood of depression occurring. Below are possible factors: - lacking employment away from home - no social support - having a few young children at home - loss of father/mother at an early age - experience with childhood abuse

  4. More situations… • Being at war • Stuck in poverty • Awareness of being in a minority group (racism) • Seasonal affective disorder (amount of sunlight affects the chemical balance in the body • Religion • Social stratas

  5. Women • Research has found that women are much more likely to develop depression due to cultural pressures to impose a responsibility over them than on men.
