2004 NORCECA Report and Confederations Activities By: Mr. Cristobal Marte Hoffiz, NORCECA President Following the extraordinary success and dynamism achieved by NORCECA in the year 2003 with a total of 18 competitions programmed and developed, Commission Meetings, Executive and Board of Administration Meeting, Regional, Continental, Intercontinental and International Tournaments and Championships, 2004 concluded as an active and fruitful year for the North, Central American and Caribbean Volleyball Confederation, NORCECA. A total of 17 competitions were developed in 2004, completing our competition calendar. NORCECA’s Sport Organizing, Refereeing, Beach Volleyball, Technical and Coaches, Medical, Press, Marketing and Finance Commissions held their meeting as programmed during the month of February with extraordinary results, setting down and programming the future of our activities and events. Also, NORCECA Executive Committee and Board of Administration held their annual meeting during the month of April receiving proposals and innovations from our commissions. During NORCECA’s Executive and Board Meeting important decisions were taken in order to secure the future organization of events, in accordance with the decisions adopted by NORCECA’s 2003 Congress, representing a major step forward as one of the leading Confederations of the Federation Internationale de Volleyball, FIVB.

Presidents Activity Report NORCECA’s President Activity Report was presented with an update on the organization of the III Pan-American Women’s Cup (World Grand Prix Qualification Tournament), as well as, NORCECA’s Competition Calendar for the years 2004, 2005 and 2006. A special report was also presented by the President concerning the participation of NORCECA’s Affiliated National Federations in the XXIX FIVB World Congress 2004, held in the city of Porto, Portugal on May 12-13, 2004, ensuring the participation of 32 active Affiliated National Federations. For this important World Congress, NORCECA Affiliated National Federations supported unanimously Dr. Ruben Acosta Hernandez and FIVB decisions throughout a public manifest signed by all Executive Committee, Board of Administration and National Federations Members.
General Secretary Office Presidents Office Administration NORCECA new Headquarters were established in a modern facility of 1,771 sq. ft., fully equipped with a modern computer system network, fax machines, data projector, intercom communication system and office furniture equipment. A comfortable Board of Administration and Executive Committee rooms, together with sufficient office space to host NORCECA President, Executive Director, Secretariat, Press, Marketing and Finance Department Offices ensure a professional organization and administration according to FIVB standards. A total of 9 professionals personnel conforms NORCECA’s Staff working full time to guarantee the excellence for the organization of NORCECA’s Competitions events and activities . Communication NORCECA website,www.norceca.org,has become an indispensable and important working tool of information. Our Continental Press Officer, engaged with the financial support of FIVB, has contributed enormously promoting our sport throughout NORCECA’s Newsletters within our Continent and Worldwide, establishing a close working strategy with its relation with the media and major newspapers of our Continent, as well as, international agencies, creating the necessary awareness during the organization of Regional, Continental and Intercontinental events. NORCECA’s Newsletters, a total of 53 editions in 2004, was also a important tool of information to follow NORCECA’s Competitions and Activities. All FIVB information related to NORCECA were also posted in NORCECA’s website. Today NORCECA website has become a file of information registering Volleyball history in our Continent.

Marketing With firm steps, NORCECA is progressively achieving the new marketing strategy set forward for our major events (Continental Beach Volleyball Competitions, Pan-American Women’s Volleyball Cup and NORCECA Youth, Junior and Senior Continental Championship). Marketing efforts started to produce an important contribution for NORCECA in 2004 thanks to the new marketing strategy developed. Mikasa Corporation continued its important contribution in exchange of publicity, with a US$50,000.00 worth of Volleyball equipment that every year is distributed among NORCECA Affiliated National Federations in order to support the development of Volleyball in their respective territories.
NORCECA’s Regional Association In 2004 the Caribbean Zonal Volleyball Association, Cazova and the Central American National Federations Association, AFECAVOL, accomplished to organize all there regional competitions, as well as, there General Assembly. NORCECA has established an important qualification system where at the Sub Regional competitions from the Caribbean Zone are the qualifying tournaments to the Caribbean Regional Championships, that at the same time, is the qualifying competition to the Continental Championships. In the Central America, taking into consideration the small number of countries of this region, (7) seven, the Central American Regional Tournaments are the qualifying event to the Continental Championships.
