Join us for a special edition of TROY TECH TALKS, where we will discuss the important topic of cyberbullying and sexting. Learn how to protect your children and promote digital citizenship. We will have guest speakers from the Oakland County Prosecutor's Office.

  1. TROY TECH TALKS • Initiated last school year by parents & TSD staff as a way to help each other learn, keep up with technology that our students utilize and create a common message about how technology is best used in the classroom & at home. • This is a SPECIAL EDITION of T3. Typically T3 sessions are designed for parents/staff. • Efforts of this group are from TSD volunteer parents and staff. Feedback and suggestions always welcome. • Time permitting, each session will conclude with Q&A & sharing time. Come ready to ask about an app/website or tell us about one you’re familiar with! • WE ALL LEARN TOGETHER! #onetroy

  2. TSD is continually updating the website to make it easier for parents & staff to find resources/information and will continue to do so throughout the school year. The Technology Dept. has implemented many new sites, features and enhancements. Be patient, as change takes time but will make finding information so much easier.

  3. DIGITAL CITIZENSHIP • In each building, media specialists lead the charge teaching Digital Citizenship within their curriculum. • They work with other building staff as well. • They organized the Ok2Say presentations in each building this year. Ok2Say is done in grade groups - K–1, 2-3, and 4-5 at the elementary level. • Many buildings have completed but some may still be presenting them later in the school year.

CYBERBULLYING & SEXTING - Jessica Cooper, Oakland County Prosecutor • Elected Oakland County Prosecutor in November of 2008 First woman to ever hold this position • 8 yrs as a District Court Judge, 14 yrs as a Circuit Court Judge, & 6-1/2 yrs as a Judge of the Michigan Court of Appeals • Attended law school at Wayne State University • Began career as an Assistant Defender in the Michigan State Appellate Defender's Office • Entered private practice as a civil rights litigator • Founding member of the National Association of Women Judges, served as one of its first publication editors. • As a Circuit Court Judge in Oakland County, developed the reputation of a tough, but fair judge

  5. CYBERBULLYING & SEXTING- Jessica Cooper, Oakland County Prosecutor • Extremely active in legal education. Served as an Adjunct Professor of Law at the University of Michigan Law School, taught at Michigan State University College of Law, the National Institute for Trial Advocacy, the Institute of Continuing Legal Education, and the National College of Advocacy of the American Trial Lawyers Association. • Faculty member at Emory Law School in Atlanta. • In 2008, received the prestigious "Treasure of Detroit" Alumni award from Wayne State University Law School. • As the Oakland County Prosecutor, recognized as one of twelve "the best of the best" power lawyers in the metropolitan area by Crain's Detroit Business Weekly. • In May of 2009, awarded the Champion of Justice award from the Michigan Association of Justice.

CYBERBULLYING & SEXTINGPAUL WALTON,Chief Assistant Prosecutor, Oakland County • Graduated from the Detroit College of Law in Detroit Michigan, June 1991 • Passed the Michigan Bar Exam, November 1991 • Intern for the United States Attorney’s Office for the Eastern District of MI • Worked as a law-student practitioner for St. Clair County Prosecutor’s Office until April 1991. Hired by the Oakland County Prosecutor’s Office, April ‘91 • Worked in the felony trial division & promoted to Major Crimes Prosecutor in 1996 • In January of  2009, appointed as Acting-Chief of the Warrants Division & to his current assignment as Chief Assistant Prosecutor

TROY TECH TALKS What can parents do?  Ask questions.  • Have children show you what they’re doing in school • Help them to be organized and remember to recharge the devices before bringing them to school each day • Keep the lines of communication open between teacher, parent, and student • Check your email regularly for messages from the school.  Instill the values of good digital citizenship, and encourage kids to use technology wisely and effectively • Send questions and/or suggestions for future T3 topics to triciaalbery@gmail.com or geyersoftroy@gmail.com
