  3. Plot (definition) • Plot sequence of events that make up a story. Every plot is made up of a series of incidents that are related to one another.

  4. Exposition(also called introduction/beginning) • We are introduced to the main characters, setting, and conflict/problem.

  5. 2. Rising Action • The conflict(s) become more complex. • The author adds interest or builds suspense. • We see the characters’ true personalities.

  6. 3. Climax • This is the turning point of the story. • Usually the main character comes face to face with a conflict. • The event that solves the main problem.

  7. 4. Falling Action • All loose ends (smaller problems or side stories) of the plot are tied up.

  8. 5. Resolution • The story comes to a reasonable ending. • The “happily ever after” moment • Often times the character will reflect back on events from the story or look to the future
