Water Erosion and DepositionBeaches • Erosion on beaches occurs when the waves crash down on them and carry away the sand. • This type of erosion makes a variety of features • Sea Stacks • SeaCliffs • Sea Caves • Headland • Wave-cut terrace
Water Erosion and DepositionBeaches • At the shoreline, the place where land and a body of water meet, is where the most erosion takes place • Longshore currents, a movement of water that is parallel to the shoreline, transport and deposits material offshore • This creates landforms in open water • Sandbars • Barrier spits sandbar
Wind Erosion and DepositionDeserts • Major components of erosion and deposition in deserts • Saltation - process by which sand size particles skip and bounce across the land, over time making them smaller • Deflation- lifting and removal of fine sediment • Abrasion- grinding and wearing down of rock surfaces by other rock or sand particles

Gravitational Erosion and Deposition • Mass movement is the movement of any material downslope • Rock fall- a group of loose rocks that fall down a steep slope • Landslide- a sudden and rapid movement of a large amount of material downslope • Mudflow- the rapid movement of a large mass of mud, rock, and soil mixed with a large amount of water • Creep- the extremely slow movement of material
Summary of Erosion and Deposition Erosion is the slow detereriation of Earth’s crust. Deposition s the settling of materials from erosion.
