Be the Match • Critical Points from Panel and Presentation • Grades 3rd and 4th year are variable from school to school, Medical School Evaluation letter is relatively standardized • Ask for LOR’s before you leave your Elective rotation (or very soon after) • Aug, Sept, Oct = timing of you HOT elective rotations (after this you are getting past interviewing season) • **MUST~ have spent some time in the place where you want to apply for residency (generally speaking) • DO YOUR HOMEWORK • Stay in contact with program director after interview

Be the Match • Know the match is flawed NOT the student • There is no more internship year, all residency • Can no longer sign outside the match (so decision between AOA vs. Allopathic timing is a difficulty) • I will post preso on the details of this on tustudentlife • USMLE Step 2 vs Step 1 etc. is controvertial

Be the Match…in a few years • Goals for 2nd year • CV/Portfolio  keep track of what you do • Extra-Curriculars • Specialty Choice • What have you liked along the way • Location, lifestyle, etc • DO NOT chose on income** • **Concerns of USMLE vs. COMLEX  CALL them • How do I pick a rotation? • Structure (i.e. university based, community, etc) • Be Goal Oriented • Paying for clerkships
