  2. Diversity • There are over 9000 species of birds • They live in a wide variety of places spanning the entire world

  3. General Characteristics of Birdss • Birds are Endothermic Amniotes • They have specialized adaptations for flight • They have special air sacks for breathing while flying • Birds wings have the same shape as an airplane’s wing

  4. Reproduction • They reproduce sexually • They have internal fertilization • The eggs have a hard, water-proof, protective shell • Parental care exists within most species

  5. Digestion • Birds have a complete digestive tract • Organs include mouth, pharynx, esophagus, stomach, large and small intestines, liver, pancreas, and anus • Birds have crop for stomach and gizzard for grinding food
