We’re committed to making the most out of every dollar we receive — that’s why we use nearly 90% of our funding for program expenses in an industry where the average is only 65%.

  4. The Rotary Foundation • What we do with our donations • Each year, gifts to the Rotary Foundation fund thousands of projects around the globe. Here are a few examples from 2011–12: • $102.8 million spent on fighting polio in areas including India, which is now polio-free • $2 million raised by Korean Rotary members to build a maternal and child health complex in Tanzania, serving an area of more than a million people • $40,000 spent to provide safe drinking water, sanitation and facilities, and training in India

  6. District Grants • Clubs may support a broad range of activities with their district grant funds. Examples of potential district-grant activities include: • Local or international service projects as well as service travel or disaster recovery efforts • Vocational training teams: • No partnership or international requirements • No restrictions on team size or length of training • Teams travel to either conduct or receive training • Scholarships: • No restrictions on the level (secondary, university, or graduate), length, location (local or international), or area of study • No restrictions on the dollar amount for the scholarships

District Grants • Examples of District Grant Projects… • back packs/back to school projects, • a new refrigerator for a food pantry, • computers and library improvements at poorly funded schools, • a new (used) forklift for a large Books for the World project, • improvements to local parks, • literacy supplies for prison release programs, • high school and college scholarships, • support for a medical equipment repair school in Haiti.  Additionally, several clubs have joined to make a larger, sometimes international project - which avoids the paperwork, size and sustainability requirements of a Global Grant.

District Grants • Attendance at a District Conducted Qualification Session if mandatory for Club Qualification • To be eligible for a District Grant in 2014/2015, a Club must closed all previous year Grants. • Clubs must be up-to-date on RI and District Dues as well as the IRS 990. • Per Capita contributions to The Rotary Foundation will be considered in the award of Grant funds.

  11. District Grants • Leadership Responsibilities • Planning • Current Club Management must work closely with incoming President and President-Elect to plan Grant activity for 2014/2015. • Partner with other Clubs and/or organizations to increase the scope of your project.

  12. District Grants • Leadership Responsibilities • Qualification • Club must have at least one person attend a District Conducted Qualification Session to qualify the Club to obtain Grant(s). (Did you sign in???) • Qualification is obtained only via District training. • Clubs must requalify annually. • Clubs must be qualified annually by attending a District Qualification session.

District Grants • Due Dates • Requests for District Grants are due by the second Tuesday in June because... • Our District must submit a spending plan to RI for approval (July 1). • Grant acknowledgement will occur in mid-July • Final Report due immediately upon completion of Grant activities.

District Grants • More About Due Dates… • District Grant projects must be completed in the Rotary year for which it is approved. • All receipts must be dated in the current RI year. • Final reports must be received by the district before May 1. (Must include a signed final grant form, receipts and pictures)

District Grants • Funding • Funds available in 2014- 2015 = $76,967 • Minimum Grant Request is $1,000 • Maximum Grant Request is $4,000 • One Grant Request per Club (unless…) • Clubs are urged to work together or with outside sources to fund Grants. • Club Per Capita contributions are a part of the funding decision. • Grant Funds awarded to Club upon submission of the Grant’s Final Report.

  19. District Grants • Report on Use of Grant Funds • Clubs must report abuse or misuse of Grant Funds to the District Foundation Chair or District Governor.

  20. District Grants • Authorization & Agreement • Memorandum of Understanding signed by • 2014/2015 Club President • 2014/2015 Club President-Elect • MOU is valid only from July 1, 2014 through June 30, 2015.

District Grants • Proposed Grant Fund Allocation • 2014-2015 Grant Funds Available: $76,967.03 • 2012-2013 District Per Capita Funds: $128.75 • Clubs whose Per Capita average > $128.75 go into group A. • Clubs whose Per Capita Average < $128.75 go into group B. • Group A clubs eligible for 75% of Grant Funds • Group B clubs eligible for remaining 25%.
