  2. Objectives • Develop the teaching of early-career physics teachers • Improve the retention of physics teachers in the profession • Develop networks of physics teachers (local, regional, national)

Background • Part of the Stimulating Physics Network • Operational since 2012 • Currently 26 mentors; over 1,100 ECTs registered • Characterised by light-touch, personalised, external (non-hierarchical) support. • Supplemented by local events and workshops. • Working with ITE providers and tutors. • Three years of (graded) support – ITE, NQT, NQT+1

  4. 2014-15 • New phase of the SPN project (2014-16) • Sept 2014: aim to recruit 400 trainees from PGCE, School Direct, SCITT • Increasing number of mentors (>30), more support for each ECT • Integrating into the SPN link with new Science Learning Partnerships (events for physics ECTs) • Developing the role of the IOP Scholar
