Course presentation • LINGUA INGLESE 1 (E-1), Prof. Marina Morbiducci, academicyear 2012-13 • 9 cfu • Il corso si articola su tre MODULI, distinti ma interagenti, tutti e tre da frequentare ed oggetto di valutazione finale: • Language Improvement (70 hrs) from: October 25th/27th, 2012 until May 16th/18th, 2013 (2 hrs per class) • Linguistics and Sociolinguistics (12 hrs) from: February 11th until May 14th, 2013 (1 hour per class) • English for Academic Purposes (24 hrs) from: February 1st until April 26th , 2013 (2 hrs per class)

Language improvement • 1- Languageimprovement • Lettorato di Lingua Inglese 1 con esperte linguistiche • native speakers: • MarilenaFilice, Thursday 9-11, Aula Magna • Sara Weiss, Saturday 9-11, Aula Magna • Le lezioni iniziano rispettivamente il 25 e 27 ottobre e continueranno per tutto l’anno, fino a completamento del monte orario previsto. Si ipotizza la fine del corso a metà maggio 2013 (tranne eventuali perdite di lezioni e relativi recuperi). • The course aims at providing students with the skills necessary to interact at a B1+ level of the Common European Framework. Objectives include building students' ability in all four of the language skills: reading, writing, listening and speaking. • Bibliography: "New English File Intermediate" by Clive Oxenden and Christina Latham-Koenig, Oxford University Press. • There are extra exercises and downloadable material available on the book's site as well as study links throughout the course to make learning more effective. Available at Feltrinelli International and Libreria Quattro Fontane.

  4. Lettorato – language improvement • I due corsi paralleli (Filici/Weiss) in orari differenti, svolgono lo stesso programma. Gli studenti possono scegliere l’una o l’altra giornata a seconda delle proprie preferenze e/o necessità. Gli studenti possono anche frequentare entrambe i moduli, se vogliono rafforzare il proprio processo di apprendimento. • Non ci sono test d’ingresso. • Gli studenti in possesso della certificazione Cambridge-ESOL, a partire dal livello B2 (FCE), possono essere esonerati dall’essere valutati in questa specifica parte di LanguageImprovement. • Assessment: Written test, based on multiple choice questions and open questions, as well.

Morbiducci • Starts: February 11th, 2013 • Timetable: Monday, 17.00-18.00, Aula 1 • The course covers the first 10 chapters in the book by S. Brown and Salvatore Attardo: • Understanding Language Structure, Interaction, and Variation. • The University of Michigan Press, Ann Arbor, 2nd edition, 2005 (ISBN 0-472-03038-8) • pp. 1-173 • Assessment: • Written test, multiple choice questions.

EAP • 3- English for Academic Purposes (EAP) • Lecturer: Khaison Duong • Starts in second semester, February 1st, until April 26th, 2013. • Timetable: Friday, aula magna, 9-11 from February 1st until April, 2013 • No textbook is required, but materials provided by the lecturer. • Assessment: multiple choice test + open task questions

Morbiducci, academicyear 2012-13, 6 cfu • Il corso si articola in due moduli: • 1-Language Improvement (50 hours) starting October 25th/25th, until March 21st • (in second semester only on Thursdays) • 2-Translation and Translation Studies (24 hours) starting February 11th, 2013 until May 14th, 2013

Language improvement “English as a Reality” • 1-Language Improvement • Lettorato di Lingua Inglese II • Lettori native speaker: • Marilena Filici, Sara Weiss • Course description: • “English as a Reality” • The course, 'English as a Reality', increases students' awareness of contemporary English usage-written and spoken. Through the use of a variety of themes and topics, the course will provide a thorough review of grammatical structures and the use of English. It will also focus on increasing students' vocabulary, improving pronunciation and fluency. • Bibliography: Course dispenser, "English as a Reality" available at the faculty photocopy center. "Advanced Grammar in Use", by Martin Hewings, published by Cambridge University Press.

English as a Reality • Timetable: • Sara Weiss, Saturday 11-13, Aula Magna • MarilenaFilice, Thursday 11-12 Aula C- Surnames A-L, Thursday 13-14 Aula C- Surnames M-Z • I due corsi, condotti dalle due lettrici, si integrano: • per un totale di 3 ore settimanali, due sono svolte il sabato da Sara Weiss, ed una, canalizzata A-M / N-Z, il giovedì, da Marilena Filici. • A partire dal secondo semestre, si svolgeranno solo le ore del giovedì, fino a raggiungere il totale delle ore previste alla fine di marzo 2013. • Assessment: Oral test covering the grammar units, texts and themes covered by the course.

Translation and Translation Studies • 2- Translation and TranslationStudies • Il corso di traduzione e teoria della traduzione è impartito dalla prof.ssa Morbiducci • Le lezioni si svolgono il lunedì, dalle 18.00 alle 20.00, in aula 1 • Il libro di testo è: • J. Munday, Introducing Translation Studies, Theory and Applications, Routledge, London and New York, 2nd edition, 2006. Il libro va portato per intero. • Alla parte teorica si aggiunge quella pratica, di traduzione di testi di vario genere, che verranno analizzati traduttologicamente. • Assessment: prova orale consistente in: • domanda di teoria • traduzione e analisi traduttologica di testi già tradotti durante il corso • traduzione all’impronta di un testo nuovo.
