Aim • Derive expert opinions from panel of 16 optometrists concerning visual examination of patients with mild traumatic brain injury (mTBI) in order to provide optimal and uniform vision care. • Relevance • Many problems are associated with mTBI, including oculomotor and vision problems that can impede daily activities such as reading. • Correct diagnosis and treatment of mTBI-related vision problems is important to patient recovery.
Method • Used modified Delphi method consisting of online questionnaires with 16 Department of Veterans Affairs optometrists around country.
Results • Process resulted in clinical tool containing: • 17 history questions. • 7 examination procedures.
Conclusion • This tool provides clinical guidelines that can be used by any eye care provider either as screening tool or adjunct to full eye examination for patient with history of mTBI.
