  7. Why is it called a “boot” verb? • The stems that change, are in the shape of a boot when you conjugate! • There are 3 types of stem changing verbs that we will learn today: • e changes to i • e changes to ie • o changes to ue

  8. Stem-Changing or “Boot” Verbs • Verbs whose stem or root changes when you conjugate! • To find the stem, simply drop off AR, ER, or IR • Ex. Pedir & Servir (e – i) • Ped -Ser • Ex. Poder & Probar (o – ue) • Pod -Prob • Ex. Preferir(e – ie) • Prefer

  9. Vamos a tratar! • Pedir (e – i) – to ask for or to order • Drop -irto get the stem. Change the e to an iin the stem for all except Nosotros, Vosotros • Use the regular verb endings

Let’s Make Our Own Boot • With construction paper, draw 3 boots on the page. • Choose 1 (e – i) verb, 1 (e – ie) verb, and 1 (o – ue) verb to put on your boots. • Find additional verbs on p. 205, 278 & R27 (in the back) of the blue textbook • Remember! Nosotros and vosotros are outside of the ankle part of the boot!
