  1. Observation How observant are you? How much do you remember of what you see?

  2. On your whiteboards, describe what is happening in the picture: Who is there? What are they doing? Where are they? What else is there? What has just happened? What do you think might happen next?

  3. Observation Use your observations to create similes. Simile – a comparison using ‘as’ or ‘like’: the sea was as rough as a crocodile’s back.

  4. Observation How effective can you make your similes? Make your similes as unusual as possible. Decide what you want to compare and think of an exciting comparison.

  5. Observation The child dug holes in the sand as furiously as a terrier after a rabbit. The clouds rolled around the mountains like the smoke from a bonfire. MAKE YOUR SIMILES MORE EXCITING!!!
