The ridge marks the boundary between the Eurasian and North American Plates,

  5. Brief History on Iceland- Beginnings • The first people to settle in Iceland were probably Irish monks who came in the 8th century. However in the 9th century they were driven out by Vikings. • Norwegian Viking named FlokiVilgeroason gave the country its name- Iceland.

  6. Modern Iceland and its Population • Today Iceland relies on fishing, sheep, cattle, and Icelandic ponies for its economy. • Today Iceland is a prosperous country with a high standard of living. • Today the population of Iceland is 313,000- about half the population of Milwaukee.
