1. 1.08 Compare the American system of government to other forms of government What is the effect of the various forms of government on individual freedom? How does each government provide for consent of the governed and limited government?

2. Forms of Government • anarchy – the complete absence of government, often means no individual freedom or consent of the governed.

3. Forms of Government • Autocracy – rule by one person, power and authority are in the hands of one; usually individual freedom and consent of the governed is limited. • monarchy – a king, queen, or emperor whose position is inherited, exercises the supreme powers of government

4. Forms of Government • Autocracy • dictatorship / totalitarianism – ideas of a single leader or group should control all aspects of life, use of military / violence, no freedom or consent of the governed.
