  1. 2nd Semester 2014 UNISA Tutorial Support Middelburg Learning Centre • WHAT IS A TUTORIAL? • A tutorial is a regular meeting of students under the leadership of a tutor. The tutor leads you through aspects of the study material with which you are experiencing difficulties. • WHY WE HAVE TUTORIALS? • To broaden students understanding of subject content • Develop analytical skills • To provide necessary guidelines on difficult content • areas approach • To assist students with Assignments and prepare them • for examinations • WHO ARE THE TUTORS? • Our Tutors are hand-picked professional people who have extensive practical and theoretical knowledge of the courses in which they conduct classes. Unisa tutors (experienced researchers' or/and professionals) lead discussions that focus on common problem areas in the curriculum, key issues and themes • WHAT IS A FACE-TO-FACE TUTORIAL? • A face-to-face tutorial is an organised session where students and tutors meet regularly at a common venue and at scheduled times to tackle problems involving their studies. • WHAT IS A VIDEO CONFERENCE(VC) TUTORIAL? • A video conference is a live connection between people in separate locations for the purpose of communication, usually involving audio and often text as well as video. • CLASSES TAKE PLACE FORTNIGHTLY FOR 2 HOURS PER COURSE/ MODULE, MAINLY ON SATURDAYS. • In total 15 hours per module per semester or 30 hours per course per year. • Midweek classes may be arranged if there are sufficient students and the tutor is available. • A minimum of 10 students ensures the commencement of tutorials for a designated course. • Other Programmes: • E-tutor • Video Conferences • Qualitative and Quantitative Literacies For more information visit our information desk at Unisa Middelburg or www.unisa.ac.za/middelburgclasses
