Basic Facts about General Hospital, Vavuniya • It is the largest hospital under the provincial administration • It covers around 400,000 population from four districts- Vavuniya, Mullaitivu, Kilinochi, Mannar- and a part of Anuradhapura district • It was the main hospital which served thousands of IDPs during 2009- 2010

  4. Receiving 700-800 outpatients/day (2,54,045 in 2009 & 1,65,568 up to August 2010) • Managing 450-550 inpatients/day (73,462 in 2009 & 40,904 up to Aug 2010) • Conducting clinics with 3000 patients/week

Vavuniya General Hospital should be brought to the national level and state of the art medical facilities must be given as many of the people are not afford to seek better medical facilities in Colombo or any other part of the island. • At present this hospital is conducting following clinics. • Surgical clinic • Medical clinic • Antenatal clinic • Diabetic clinic • Well baby clinic • Pediatric clinic • Rheumatic clinic • Gyn, & family planning clinic • Oncologist clinic • Cardio logical clinic • ENT clinic • Eye clinic • Orthopedic clinic • Dental clinic • Skin clinic • Obstetric clinic

Following equipments are urgently needed for respective wards • Operation theater • Video endoscope (upper and lower gastro endoscope) • Diathermy machine • Neonatal sucker machine • Neonatal pulse oxymeters • Capnograph monitor with accessories • Multipara monitors • Cyst scope • Hand hold fetal Doppler • Electronic weighing machine (1 g – 5 kg) • Laryngeal airway mask (LMA) (1,1 ½ ,2 ½ ,3,4 sizes) • Blood and fluid warmer • Portable ultra sound machine for anesthesia and critical care( for venous acces,pheripheral nerve block) • Pneumatic or electric drill • DHF/DCH instrument set (orthopedic). • Hip, semi orthoplastic instrument set • arthroscopic instruments • Spinal instrument set • Fibro optic intubating bronchoscope
