BACKGROUND You have a mature HIV workplace program… What next? • Mainstreaming HIV/AIDS into a corporation's existing structures is key to sustaining HIV workplace programs • Levi Strauss & Co. (LS&Co.) compared impact of such efforts against stand-alone workplace HIV initiatives on employee: • HIV knowledge • Access • Workplace concerns
DESCRIPTION How about MAINSTREAMING? • Since 2008, LS&Co.'s HIV workplace policy is supported by global education and access efforts • In 2012, in addition to stand-alone HIV activities, HIV-related messages were integrated into other corporate structures • Between Dec 2012-Jan 2013, 6,892 surveys were administered to LS&Co. employees in 43 countries • Multivariable analyses conducted to assess the impact of employee “exposure” to each activity on proxy results • Risk ratios and 95% confidence intervals were calculated to compare outcomes between groups
LESSONS LEARNED BUT DOES IT WORK? Most activities were significantly associated with improved access, workplace support, manager support, confidentiality and engagement. Participation in activity significantly associated with higher proxy scores (p<0.05) Participation in activity not associated with significantly different proxy scores Participation in activity significantly associated with lower proxy scores (p<0.05) KEY: KNOWLEDGE ACCESS NON-DISCRIMINATION ANTI-STIGMA WORPLACE SUPPORT MANAGER SUPPORT CONFIDENTIALITY ENGAGEMENT
CONCLUSIONS YES, MAINSTREAMING WORKS, HOWEVER… At this critical juncture in the global HIV response, focused, stand-alone HIV education initiatives are critical to improve HIV knowledge, and reduce workplace stigma and discrimination. learn more To learn more about LS&Co.’s Employee HIV/AIDS Program, visit www.hivaids.levi.com or email hivaids@levi.com.
