About the Knowledge Base • Secure access, classified and sensitive but unclassified systems • Shared place for storing FEMA-related content, collaborating with members/community, information recovery and discovery
What is a Wiki? • Notable Examples: • WikiPedia • InteliPedia A Wiki is an online resource linking a collection of websites. Unlike websites, users are not only able to read, but can also add and edit content collectively.
Getting Started Log in to the MWFC Wiki at: http://www.r3levees.org/wiki/index.php/Main_Page Note: Main Page can be viewed by all internet users, but only registered users can view additional R3 Levee pages.

Personal Settings • My Talk • Links to your personal discussion page, where people can leave messages for you • Preferences • Allows you to change your personal site preferences • My Watchlist • List of all pages you are watching (e.g. updates of changes/edits) • My Contributions • List of all contributions you have made to the KB • Log Out • Click this link to log out of the KB
Finding Information Enter text into the left navigation search box • Go button – takes you to a page (if available) • Search button – returns a list of title and text matches
Editing Content • Click on the Edit Tab or select [edit] • Type edits into the text box

Linking Pages • To link to a page outside the KB, use single brace [url text (optional)] • To link to a page inside the KB, use double braces [[page]] You type: [[Main Page]] You link to the Main Page of the Wiki • To create a link to the Main Page, but change name of this link, create a piped link You type: [[Main page|click here]] You link to the Main Page, but the link will be named “click here”
Linking to a Document • To post a file to the KB, in Navigation, click Upload file • Browse for the file on your computer • Rename the file and provide a summary (optional) • Link to the document in page using curly braces and doc type: {{doc|doc name|text (optional)}} • Example: • {{pdf|CorpsLetter-Deficiencies4-30-07.pdf|Corps Letter of Deficiencies}}
Page Editing Tips • Always preview the page before saving changes. • When you save pages, include a short explanation of your changes in the “Summary” text box. Watchers will receive this with notification and it’s helpful when looking at page history/revisions. • Edit page directly to add value to a subject. Use the Discussion Tab to post comments or questions (don’t forget to sign comments: ~~~~)
Change Notification • Select the “Watch tab” when you view a page • From the edit tab, select the “Watch this Page” box Note: to receive E-mails, you must provide an E-mail address and select which edit notifications you would like to receive in “My Preferences”
Revision History • Changes can be viewed using either the top tab (History) or left navigation (Recent changes). • In the history tab, you can compare two versions – this highlights changes between versions.
