    1. The abilities of reproduction and resistance for some common diseases of New Zealand rabbits raised in Thai Nguyen province Nguyen Quang Tuyen, Nguyen Thi Lien Thai Nguyen Agricultural and Forestry University, Viet Nam

    2. I. Introduction In year 2000, the Goat and Rabbit Research Center of Son Tay, Ha Noi was imported three pure breed rabbits were California, Panon, New Zealand White from Hungari. These three ones quickly got used to Vietnamese conditional raising, gave their high productivity much more than the other raised as before (Nguyen Quang Suc, 2003). At present, in many regions in whole country, this cross-breeding method is widely being applied for hybrids with high adaptability being suitable to conditional environment and mode of raising in Viet Nam (Đinh Van Binh, 2003).

    3. I. Introduction In some areas of Thai Nguyen province and neighbour provinces, rabbits raising branch is strongly developing. However, the people still take difficulties on breeds, care process, feeding, prevent and treatment diseases for rabbits… Almost of veterinarian hadn't well knowledge for raising rabbits, that is why this considerably decreased the benefit. Therefore, researching the growth, reproduction and preventing some common diseases for rabbit herds at this time is necessary to find the best solution for rabbit raising branch development in Thai Nguyen province.

    4. II. Methodology 2.1. Subjects of the study Observe the reproduction, growth and some infectious diseases on New Zealand Rabbit (0-120 days) Prevent and treat some common diseases of New Zealand Rabbit raised in Thai Nguyen 2.2. Methods The experiment were placed according to each treatments in the same condition. Rabbit individually kept, numbered, observed based on each rabbit family with rate of 1buck / 5 does. The rabbit were directly copulated Using medicine for prevention and treatment The data were analyzed based on the common statistic and the biological statistic method of Nguyen Van Thien (1997)

    5. III. Results and discussion 3.1. The reproduction of NZL rabbits raised in Thai Nguyen province 3.2. The ability of growing of NZL rabbits 3.2.1. The weight of rabbits before weaning 3.2.2. The weight of rabbits after the weaning 3.3. The rates of alive rabbit during periods of age 3.4. The infective state on rabbits 3.5. The results of treatment for infected rabbits

    6. Table 01: The results of some reproductive physiology on first litter of rabbit (n=40) The female was ready to be mated for the first time at 121.7 days and the bodyweight was 3187.45 gr. The first rutting age of NZL rabbit’s Grandparent generation imported in 2000 were 118 days, parent generation were 117 days. In comparison with above, the age of first rutting of NZL rabbits in Thai Nguyen was longer. Beside environmental factors as weather condition, care and bringing up in the farm were still not well, so that it lasted the time of rutting of rabbits. The rutting period was 13.85 days and the rutting time was 3.3 days. The first mating age was 159.15 days and the bodyweight were 3499 gram.

    7. Table 02: The results of some reproductive physiology NZL rabbits raised in Thai Nguyen Carrying out first copulating for both first reproductive rabbit and next rabbit’s litter: ? it showed that the rate of first pregnant were 70.1 % and next were 71.5 %. ….. According to Dinh Van Binh (2003) : the rate of first copulating of Viet Nam rabbits was 72.5% and NZL rabbits newly imported was 75.5%. Our result was lower from 2.4 to 4.5% than Viet Nam rabbits and NZL newly imported correspondingly. It showed that the breed, age and determination the mating time for the NZL rabbits raced in Thai Nguyen till have some un-rational factors.

    8. Table 03: The weight of rabbit before and after weaning (gr) Before weaning: - The bodyweight of rabbit at 21 days were 305.0 gr; weaning age 30 days, bodyweight 490.0 gr. After weaning: - The bodyweight at 60 days were 1745.0 gr and at 120 days were 3187.45 gr In comparison with NZL rabbits imported in year 2000, our results were lower.

    9. Table 04: The rates of alive rabbit during periods of age Post partum to 30 days: - new born rabbits died with high rate (13.33%). The reasons caused high dead rabbit rate were the does had not enough milk, so they were died by milk thirst The rabbit died in period from 30 to 60 days with 7.67 %, in this time most of rabbits were effected by some diseases as Coccidiosis, diarrhea... From 60- 90 days: Rabbits were well adapted with environment so that the alive rabbit rate was higher than two previous periods, the alive rate were 95.83%. From 90-120 days: the alive rate were 100%

    10. Table 05: The rates of rabbits infected diseases by periods ages The rabbits were infected by mange in 2 periods : 14.16 and 12.15% The digestive disease rate in 2 periods were 11.94% and 9.02% ? caused death with 5.28 % and 2.78% correspondingly. The main reason was suddenly food change, unbalanced diet, unhygienic food and water requirement. The rate of Coccidiosis in the first period was 22.78%, and the second period was 10.06 % ? the dead rate were 14.17 and 1.04% correspondingly Hetorosis have been perniciously transmissible disease caused high death rate. However, in that time it had not out break ? the prevention for this disease program was efficiency.

    11. Table 06: The infection rate of some diseases on reproductive rabbits Mange was the common disease on reproductive rabbits with rate of 10% and infected to newborn rabbits, with high rate (23.89). The rate of rabbit’s parents infected by Diarrhea was 12.50%, the dead rate was 2.50%. The Coccidiosis was seasonal disease and depended on the period age clearly. Rabbit infected after 15 day old, and often in Spring with high rate of infection (22.5%) and dead was 5.0 %. The Heterocyst, due to using vaccine injected 2 times/ year ? That had prevented for Anemia with 100% NZL parents rabbit.

    12. Table 07: The results of treatment for NZL rabbits - Mange: They were treated by Ivermectin -> Injected 0.5ml/ 2kg once under skin. The medicine had medical properties during 1 week ( recovery rate: 97.80%) - Coccidiosis: using VinaCoc ACB mixed with crude food (doses: 2 gram/ 1 kg food/ 20kgP/ day. Continuous feeding 3 to 5 days, the recovery rate: 53.33%. - Diarrhea: unhygienic food and water on diet. Besides that some other factors as high humidity, low temperature, cold air... Rabbits were treated by NarfaColi combining with additional feeding of some leaf such as : Guavabub, jack fruit leaf, duckweed leaf...> the recovery rate : 63.16% -The treatment must to improve infective animal physical strength by high nutritional diet and mixing it with B-Complex, Vitamin C, Glucose... to enhance treatment efficiency

    13. IV. Conclusion The NZL rabbits raised in Thai Nguyen province have abilities to grow and reproduce nearly as same pure-breed. * The age and weight of first copulating were 159 days and 3499 gr * The first pregnancy was 70.1 % and 71.5% for next litter. * 6.0 kindles born alive per litter * 5,7 litters per doe per year * Weaning age at 30 days, bodyweight : 490 gr * The bodyweight (120 days): 3187 gr The NZL rabbits raised in Thai Nguyen province have abilities resistance for some common diseases as diarrhea, Coccidiosis and mange. The rates of infection and dead by those diseases were slow The NZL rabbits could raise and expand raising widely in environmental and ecological conditions of Thai Nguyen province to improve income for ethnic minorities in the North mountainous regions.
