AGE 16 to 24 – Employer UpdateApprenticeships deliver • ApprenticeshipFunding • • 100 per cent of the training costs for 16-18 year olds • • Up to 50 per cent of the training costs aged 19 or over • • Up to 40 per cent of the training costs aged 25 and over • Employer responsibilities • • As their employer you pay their wages, holiday, maternity and sick pay and issue a normal employee Contract of Employment plus an Apprenticeship Agreement • Choice of programmes and levels • • There are over 250 Apprenticeship frameworks, covering 1,400 job roles at three levels: Intermediate, Advanced and Higher National Apprenticeship Service

AGE 16 to 24 – Employer UpdateOverview • On 16 November 2011 the Government announced the Youth Contract - a £1 billion package of support to encourage small & medium sized businesses to employ young people • AGE 16 to 24 supports employers, who would not otherwise be in a position to do so, to recruit individuals aged 16 to 24 into employment through the Apprenticeship programme National Apprenticeship Service

AGE 16 to 24 – Employer UpdateOverview • The National Apprenticeship Service will provide AGE 16 to 24, with an individual value of £1,500, to eligible employers in respect of qualifying apprentices; maximum 10 grants, subject to eligibility and availability AGE 16 to 24 is available to employers: • who can confirm they are not able to employ the apprentice without the initiative • fewer than 1,000 employees • who have not had a new recruit or existing employee start an Apprenticeship in the last 12 months National Apprenticeship Service

AGE 16 to 24 – Employer UpdateEligibility Qualifying apprentices: • new recruits (or P/T progressing to F/T) • aged 16 to 24 • enrolled on a recognised Apprenticeship • living in England • not in full-time education • complete 13 weeks ‘in-learning’ on the Apprenticeship programme National Apprenticeship Service

AGE 16 to 24 – Employer UpdateSupport • Employers will be supported by our network of training organisations to access AGE 16 to 24 • Training organisations can also support employers by advertising Apprenticeship jobs on Apprenticeship vacancies, our free online recruitment service National Apprenticeship Service

AGE 16 to 24 – Employer UpdateApplication process Employers sign an agreement which includes: • indication of the number of apprentices they plan to take on as a result of the grant (max. 10); this can be updated • confirmation they meet the eligibility criteria • a commitment to employ the apprentice for a minimum of 12 months or the time it takes to complete the Apprenticeship framework, whichever is the greater • confirmation they do not beach State Aid rules • agreement to pay the apprentice in line with legal requirements National Apprenticeship Service

AGE 16 to 24 – Employer UpdatePayments • AGE 16 to 24 is available NOW! • Eligible employers employing a new apprentice can apply for the grant for starts up to 31 December 2014, subject to availability • Eligible employers qualify for payment of £1,500 after a qualifying apprentice has completed 13 weeks in-learning of their Apprenticeship programme • Employers can be paid for up to 10 grants • The grant is in addition to the training costsand is exempt from VAT National Apprenticeship Service
