EVENTS TO LOOK FORWARD TO… DINNER DANCE Friday, 25th May in the Lofthouse 7 – 10.30pm GRADE 8 FUN DAY Tuesday, May 29th AWARDS CEREMONY Monday, May 28th in the FAT 7.30 – 8.30 Welcome to High School Monday, May 28th – various HS classrooms 11.25 – 3.15 MOVING ON CEREMONY Wednesday, May 30th in the FAT 4-6pm NO SCHOOL June 1st Middle School is done… 

  3. DRESS DINNER DANCE Friday May 25 in the Lofthouse7-10.30 pm • Ladies • Young ladies can wear anything from a simple party dress to a gown. Bare bellies, and apron type tops are not acceptable. • Please don’t feel like gowns are necessary since this is a dinner-dance and not a prom. • Dresses may be strapless as long as they are tasteful. • Gentlemen • Young gentlemen should wear a coat and tie, shirt and tie or barong with dress shoes and socks. • No sneakers or jeans • All • Students may be asked to return home for a change of clothing if their overall appearance is unacceptable for the occasion. Students will be allowed to go home early @ lunch on the day to get ready.

  4. GRADE 8 FUN DAY Tuesday, 29 May Thanks to the wonderful help of a few volunteer mothers… We are in the process of planning a great day for you! Watch this space. 

  5. DRESS MOVING ON CEREMONY Wednesday, May 30 in the FAT 4-6pm • Ladies • Ladies should dress in smart-casual wear. Spaghetti straps, bare backs/bellies or halters are not acceptable. • Blouse/slacks or a dress are considered proper attire. Jeans should not be worn. • Wear comfortable shoes that will allow you to walk up/down the risers. No sneakers. • Gentlemen • Gentlemen should dress in smart-casual wear. • A dress shirt or barong with nice slacks is considered proper attire. • Jacket/ties are optional • No sneakers or jeans. • All • Students may be asked to return home for a change of clothing or be asked to sit out the ceremony if their overall appearance is unacceptable for the occasion.

  6. MOVING ON CEREMONY Wednesday, May 30 in the FAT 4-6pm Do you want to be more involved? SPEECHES AWARDS SOLOS SPEECHES Mr. Allen and a panel of grade 8 teachers will be doing interviews for the MC’s for the Ceremony and to give out the speech for the class. Try Outs –Sign up outside Mr. Burkes room. Date Tuesday 24th April

  7. KAREN TY AWARD Every year the Karen Ty award is given to a grade 8 student for creative writing. Karen Ty was a student here nearly 20 years ago. She died at the end of grade 8. Her parents decided to present an annual award for both creative writing and art. The creative writing award is decided by a panel of teachers who assess voluntary student entries. Requirements to enter: One short story (no word limit, but no novellas please) One poem To enter: Give entries to Miss Aubrey in the MS office Do not write your name on the entry. She will record your name next to a number so as to ensure anonymity for judging impartiality Closing date for entries is April 19 at 3pm. Prize: 5000 pesos (really!)

  10. WHAT MAKES A GOOD LEADER? Solid interpersonal and communication skills Highly organized and motivated Strong goal-orientated qualities Sound understanding of school procedures and protocols Specific strengths in public speaking, accounting, and IT, depending on role within council Strong involvement in a council/club/team with visible leadership qualities

  12. WHAT DOES THE COUNCIL DO? The council work with the Grade Level Coordinator and the Grade 9 Counselor, Mr. Ayling to plan various events. Grade Level Assemblies Fundraising Events Battle of the Bearcats (BOB) Class T Shirts

  13. HOW DO YOU APPLY? YOU WILL NEED THE FOLLOWING 4 FORMS: Freshmen Campaign Rules – posters etc. Application for office in class council – explain why you would be good for the position; your parents will also need to sign. Faculty Endorsement of the candidate– Teacher signatures Student Endorsement of the candidate– Student signatures You can print your own forms go to the MS PE Blog; http://ms-pe.ism-online.org/grade-8/

  14. TIME LINE FOR ELECTIONS… Completed forms handed into Mr. Allen by 3pm Thursday, May 10th. Posters need to be approved first, but will go up on Thursday May 10thin the designated areas. Wednesday May 16thin the MS Gym Posters need to be taken down by the end of the day Thursday, May 17th.
