Data Validation Programme • Practices participate in a data validation programme • Derived in collaboration with local clinicians • Annual cycles of assessment, feedback and training • Primarily looking at face-to-face consultations • Read coded reason for contact Porcheret M et al. Analysis, Feedback and Results Analysis • One months consultation data for the entire practice • Primarily surgery consultations • % of surgery consultations having a meaningful Read coded problem title / strong morbidity indicator as reason for contact Results • To individual named consulter level and per location data entered Feedback • Written report with selected data tables and comparison charts • Comparison of results: • with other clinicians in the practice • and with other practices (anonymised) • Training areas identified

Automated identification & recruitment techniques Utilising existing GP software – e.g. EMIS, SystemOne Activated when specific Read Code is entered Automated screen prompt added to GP system Works by: Only appropriate patients are flagged Provides an aide-memoire re study and eligibility criteria Automated recording of consent to be contacted Recruitment has minimal impact on consultation time Removes the admin burden from the GP
