  2. what? The aim of ChAt is to put the gospel into action by providing a Christian presence among the shopkeepers, staff and customers of Weston Town Centre

  3. aims… • to offer friendship and a listening ear to those of all faiths and none • to point those in need to an appropriate local agency - such as Somewhere to Go, Citizens’ Advice, Woodspring Deposit Guarantee Board, etc. or to a church if they so wish • to contribute to the life of the town with ethical, personal and spiritual issues based on Christian principles • to build bridges between church and society • to encourage the pursuit of the highest values for self and society • to make visible God’s love and concern for many people in diverse situations.

  4. who? ChAtis led by a half-time chaplain, assisted by a team of volunteers

  5. Volunteers are recruited and trained from churches of Weston. • Each day two work as a pair (preferably mixed gender), touring the streets and shops wearing sweatshirt type uniforms with the ChAt Logo for recognition. They will carry prayer cards and information sheets with details about where to find food, clothing or peace and quiet. • Two remain at “base” as a prayer support team, with prayer, a sympathetic ear and a kettle!

  6. where? Wherever there are people! We have a base in the heart of the town centre at 67 Meadow Street, where we can offer... • Peace, quiet & refreshment • A sympathetic ear • A support team to pray with • The support team will also be praying for those out on duty.

  7. when? We also plan to hold occasional forms of public worship in the Town Centre with the support of Churches Together in Weston-super-Mare & District. We offer chaplaincy services from Monday to Saturday, but we are aware that people have needs seven days a week. Every shop will be given details of how to contact the chaplain when the team is not available.

  8. how? ChAt very much depends on you! We need... • Volunteers • Prayerful Support • Money to cover the costs of recruiting and training volunteers, literature, venue, expenses, etc.

  9. How you can help ChAtneeds: • Volunteers • Prayer Support – that God will call people for this ministry, that funding will be provided, that ChAt will be a source of great blessing to those it serves and that through it, people will experience God’s love. • Fundraising – Church donations, Coffee mornings, sponsored events, Gift Aid giving, etc.
