  2. English Bellwork- Monday, October 16 • Directions: Write out ONE of the sentences. Then, create a rule about quotation marks in dialogue based on these sentences. • 1. “Do you know what a UFO is?” Alicia asked. • 2. “Is a UFO an alien spacecraft?” Isabella replied. • 3. “No! A UFO is any unidentified flying object!” Rayna cried.

  3. English Bellwork- Tuesday, October 17 • Directions: Write out ONE of the sentences. Then, create a rule about quotations in dialogue based on these sentences. • 1. “Some sightings,” Sue said, “are identified as birds, planes, satellites, or balloons.” • 2. “How funny!” Isabella exclaimed. “Some of the sightings are just hoaxes, right?” • 3. “You are right,” Ray replied, “but I think it would be exciting to see a real flying saucer.”

Then, create a rule about quoting dialogue based on these sentences. • 1. “Ninety percent of UFO sightings can later be identified,” Rayna added. • 2. “I have never seen a UFO,” Alicia admitted. • 3. “You probably wouldn’t really see an alien spacecraft anyway,” Isabella said regretfully.

  6. English Bellwork- Friday, October 20th • Directions: Create a sentence using a comma to SHOW each of these three quoting dialogue rules. • 1. Quotation marks are used to set off a speaker’s exact words. • 2. Use a comma to separate a quotation from the speaker tag. • Place an end mark (period, question, or exclamation) inside the closed quotation marks at the end of the quotation.
