  1. Commercial ShowerheadUES Measure Update Regional Technical Forum April 16, 2013

  2. Commercial Showerhead Measure Overview • Current Category: Small Saver • Current Status: Under Review • Current Sunset Date: May, 2013 • Reason for Update/Review: Response to recommendation memo; and sunset date approaching • Baseline Type: Pre-Conditions

  3. Summary of Updates • Changes based on Recommendation Memo (all) • Clean workbook, in latest ProCost template • Updated average occupancy rates for hospitality and healthcare. Adjusted usage (minutes per year) accordingly. • Removed efficient case shower duration factor. Only anecdotal evidence of this effect. • Change source for the Recovery Efficiency of electric water heaters to the DOE Test Procedure • Other Changes • Removed flow rate derating factor for 1.75 gpm and 1.5 gpm showerheads – current products are designed to provide rated flow rate across a wide range of pressures • Updated water costs. • Removed Mail-by-Request (Direct Mail) delivery mechanism. Not used in practice and significant uncertainty in installation rates and shipping/handling costs. • Updated electric DHW saturation rates building type specific values from CBECS (Pacific Region) and CBSA. Previously, residential value was used.

  4. Remaining Issues for RTF Discussion • Removal of flow rate derating factor for 1.75 gpm and 1.5 gpm showerheads. Current products are designed to provide rated flow rate across a wide range of pressures. • Removal of Mail-by-Request (Direct Mail) delivery mechanism. Not used in practice and significant uncertainty in installation rates and shipping/handling costs. • Asked utilities if this delivery mechanism is used: • Elizabeth Daykin – BPA has only used Direct Install for commercial showerheads • Paul Sklar – ETO only does Direct Install for commercial showerheads • Eric Brateng – PSE has not used Direct Mail for commercial showerheads • David Thompson – Avista not done significant work with commercial showerheads • No reply yet from Don Jones Jr. (PacifiCorp)

  5. Summary of Changes • kWh savings for 1.75 gpm reduce by 24% to 32%, primarily because of removal of flow rate derating factor. • kWh savings for 1.5 gpm reduce by 5% to 16%, primarily because of removal of flow rate derating factor. • kWh savings in “Any Fuel” cases further reduced (total reduction ~50%), primarily because of switch from residential to commercial electric DHW saturation values. • Measure cost increased ~5% for retail, no change for direct install. • All measures are still cost effective. Water savings alone makes these measures cost effective. • Tables of changes to parameters, energy savings, gas savings, water savings, and TRC are presented in the “Presentation 1” and “Presentation 2” tabs in the Measure Workbook.

  6. Staff Proposal • Approve the updates to the commercial showerhead UES measure; • Set the measure status to “Active”; and • Change the sunset date to April, 2018.

  7. Decision “I _______ move to approve the updates to the commercial showerhead UES measure; set the measure status to “Active”; and change the sunset date to April, 2018.”
