  18. Blue – What courses might be substituted based on this student’s college history? • Green – While reviewing this student’s transcripts, transfer credits and program plan, what unusual situation did the advisor note? • Orange - While reviewing this student’s transcripts, transfer credits and program plan, what unusual situation did the advisor note? • Purple - What courses might be substituted based on this student’s college history? • Yellow- The student & advisor missed an important point that would have shown up in the registrar’s graduation check. What it is? Case in Point Examples Hands-on Activity

  19. Blue – What courses might be substituted based on this student’s college history? Situation: • Student has approximately 59 credit hours from two other regionally accredited institutions. • Only 30 of those align with Brenau courses as equivalent coursework. Case in Point Examples Hands-on Activity - BLUE

  20. Resolution: Two courses from Atlanta Metropolitan College were substituted to meet the following: Communication Elective Global Awareness Elective

  21. Green – While reviewing this student’s transcripts, transfer credits and program plan, what unusual situation did the advisor note? Situation: • Student has associate of arts degree from regionally accredited college. Liberal Education requirements are met. • Student has completed several courses towards major that were not evaluated as equivalent that need substitutions. • However, only 51 credits are noted as transferable. Case in Point Examples Hands-on Activity -GREEN

  22. Unusual Situation: • Because the first institution the student attended was not regionally accredited Brenau can not accept the credits. • Therefore, while the student does possess an AA degree from the second regionally accredited institution and all Liberal Education requirements were waived, the physical credit transfer hours are low. This is exacerbated because major classes from the second institution need substitutions. • Ultimately, only 51 credits are accepted and approximately 40 of those are in the major. • Resolution: • Student will need extensive electives to reach 120 credits for bachelor’s. • Student is advised to take Liberal Education courses where obvious gaps exist. Student’s portfolio is also reviewed and major classes may not be used for substitutions where weaknesses exist.

  23. Orange - While reviewing this student’s transcripts, transfer credits and program plan, what unusual situation did the advisor note? Situation: • Student appears to have associate of arts degree from regionally accredited college. Liberal Education requirements are met. • Student has completed several courses towards major which also transfer into Brenau. • Only 50 credits appear on transfer credit evaluation. Case in Point Examples Hands-on Activity - ORANGE

  24. Unusual Situation: • The AA degree was in nursing and is actually closer to an applied or technical associate degree. • Advisor noted that many of the liberal education coursework had no similar/comparable matches. • A graduation check would have caught this situation, but very late in the student’s academic process. • Advisor checked with registrar and had to inform student of transfer credit error due to AA degree deficiencies. (Which we have since fixed.) • Resolution: • Student still needs 120 credits for bachelor’s and all liberal education requirements to be met. • Substitutions were made wherever possible through working with the Chairs and the Dean’s.

  25. Purple - What courses might be substituted based on this student’s college history? Situation: • Student transferred in with previous credits. Case in Point Examples Hands-on Activity - PURPLE

  26. Resolution: Two courses from Shelton State Community College were substituted to meet Physical Education Course Elective Digital Photography

  27. Yellow- The student & advisor missed an important point that would have shown up in the registrar’s graduation check. What it is? Situation: • Student has completed program plan for graduation check and reviewed with advisor. • Student and advisor have also planned the next two terms (spring and summer). Point missed: • Total credits would only add up to 118. Student needs 120 to graduate. • Student needs two more elective credits. Case in Point Examples Hands-on Activity- YELLOW
