  2. How does my music magazine challenge forms and conventions of real music magazines? The design approach to the echoes magazine was intended to be very unique and to standout amongst other conventional music magazines. While most of the music magazines have plain and non- characteristics backgrounds, the echoes front cover layout speaks out the vibrant, colours, rhythms and patterns that my genre expresses. In this power point I will be discussing how varies elements have been brought together on the front cover in a synchronized manner. Firstly, I will be elaborating on the mast head.. As you can see from the image on the right hand, that is my chosen mast head for my front cover. The reason why I chose this font type is because it design of it font itself give the feeling of the vibration or wave patterns of a real echo and the reason why I chose white for the font type is because it creates a contrast between the colour background and the mast head in order to make it clearly stand out.

  3. I decided to place all the sell lines on the left hand corner of the page, I did this purposely for specific reason. The reason is because when magazines are placed on the shell they will be stacked vertically in a pail therefore all the sell lines can be seen for the consumers since Its placed on the left. This was main reason why I made the sell lines font colours very vibrant and bright, to stand out from the page and to grab the readers attention. Also, semi transparent stripe of a darker shade is used behind the text to make it look prominent.

  4. Social representation The magazine is aimed at young and older generation since its a genre that suit any age group. As it has a soft, toned down sound, meaning that it usually focus on themes such as love, everyday life and relationships, which links with common people’s life events and those songs are written in lyrics to express the emotions where it uses soothing and calming effects. Therefore it ‘s very easily enabled to have a wider audience to this genre. Institution • The possible types of institution the magazine would be distributed are at:- • Sold at bigger News agents such as WHSmith • Music stores such as HMV. • It also could be sold at concert’s. • Sold at online sites such as Amazon , play.com ..etc • Another alternative would be creating a homepage for the magazine, so people can consume the magazine online.

  5. Target audience I strongly believe the suitable target audience for the chosen genre would be for middle class ageadults since the genre mainly highlight about love, relationships and life events where middle age group can relate to or may experience such events. However, I do believe in the fast growing society many things have changed therefore it is very hard to aim at a specific target audience, but this genre is suitable for any age range because it’s widely famous in today’s media and more and more artist’s are being introduced, this means it will increase more consumers and wider fan base. Addressing the target audience The social figure used in the front cover is an up coming artist that excite the media with her current album featuring with a famous well known artist. Her ethnic background and the impact, she has made with her approach to the music industry in the short period of her success has become the most intriguing topics in the media today. Therefore my magazine is always delivering the information which the reader is most interested in.

  6. Construction of the magazine There are many things, I learned during the process of making the magazine , mainly editing skills learned through Photoshop. In this slide I will be demonstrating some examples of the construction that I undertook. It was a difficult task for me at the beginning since I had little knowledge of using the software but completing the preliminary task I was able to tackle the music magazine easily. The desired background image is chosen and dropped on to the layer. The image of the model is dropped on to a layer on top of the background layer and then the outline of the model is selected with polygon lasso and the rest is being deleted. The blur tool was used to smoothen the edges where it was sharply trimmed off by the lasso.

  7. The picture of the female singer is a separate photograph, the outline of the model was selected using the polygon lasso tool and the background was completely deleted. The cropped out image of the model was pasted on to the other base image and colour balancing was done to make the images look similar. Any blunt edges left after the cropping around the model was softened out using the blur tool. Inner shadow (blending options) was used to try and create the same lighting effect on both individuals in the separate images. The body parts of the model is selected with the lasso tool and pasted on to a layer above the original image and then it is being de-saturated using hue/saturation options. The image of the model is copied to a layer below the original layer and completed de-saturated. Then it is being scaled up and the opacity levels lowered.

  8. The usefulness of the preliminary task • The preliminary task helped me a lot during the process of making my music magazine since I gained a lot skills that I never came across before such as :- • Thinking about camera angles and camera shots in great depth when taking photography. • Be aware of mise -en-scene when taking images and analysing the image whether it would be suitable enough to be used as the front cover. • How important the lighting and the quality of the camera when taking images. So, if its not a sharp image it won’t be up to standard. • Learned about what contained in the front cover eg:- sell lines , masthead and puffs. • The vital thing I learned was , how to use Photoshop. Since I was a beginner for this software I found great difficulty during my preliminary task to get the track of using tools it consisted , layering and editing it. However, through great difficulty I found the process of making the music magazine very easy without any hassle , through all the skills I have gained from the preliminary task therefore I believe it was very useful and important to go through this task.
