  1. Overview and Elettra Organization for ESS Magnets

  2. Introduction • Elettra, INFN and CNR are the three Institutes committed to the realization of the Italian in-kind contribution for the construction of ESS. • INFN is the Representing Entity for Italy in ESS-ERIC Elettra in-kind contributions : AIK2.1 : trilateral IKA ESS-INFN-Elettra AIK7.4, AIK8.5, AIK17.2 endorsed at IKRC 10 in October 2016.

  3. Elettra Organization for ESS Activities Elettra Sincrotrone Trieste has adopted a matrix-type organization. An internal project has been created to manage the activities related to the involvement of Elettra in ESS. E4ESS- Project Structure • The organisational model follows the structure foreseen in the “IKC agreement template”: • “The Parties will establish the following organisational structure: • General Coordinators • Work-Unit Coordinators

  6. Magnets WP SCOPE: design and build magnets installed in different parts of the machine (AIK2.1) Note: D1, Q8 and C8 are the scope of this review.

  7. Phases of the project • DESIGN PHASE • Dipole D1, quadrupole Q8 and corrector C8 magnetic design • Preliminary definition of interfaces • SCOPE: • Validate the choice and the design of the magnets • Investigate and consolidate procurement strategies • Consolidate the design ready to prepare a technical specification for the procurement phase • OUTPUTS AT THE END OF THIS STAGE • PDR • Approval of the magnetic design

  8. Phases of the project • REALIZATION PHASE • Tender documents preparation • Tendering of magnets (INFN) • Engineering design (contractor) • Design Review • Approval of the design before construction • Construction of the magnets • Measurements and verification of the magnets • Delivery of magnets to ESS • OUTPUTS AT THE END OF THIS STAGE • Magnets delivered to ESS • SAR

  9. Summary • Areas of involvement of Elettra in the construction of the ESS linac have been identified. • Trilateral in-kind agreement ESS-INFN-Elettra has allowed to proceed for the magnets • Tender for the realization of the LWU is in course. • This PDR an important step for the progress of activities on the remaining magnets part of Elettra contribution. • Tender of these magnets to be issued end of September 2017. • .
