  12. What about Meetings?

  13. The meeting is a work station

  14. A work station consists of space and people who occupy space

  15. People in the work space meet to produce a work product

  16. Work products require effective work processes

  17. People should be trained in effective work processes

  18. People therefore need meeting skills training

  19. BRAINSTORMING RULES

  20. If you’re brainstorming and someone gives an idea, write down exactly what the team member said…do not interpret it or put it in your own words

  21. Do not argue, debate, or disagree with theperson suggesting the idea…there’s a time to listen and there’s a time to talk!

  22. During the brainstorming session, always put the ideas on the chart, board, or projection screen.…even if you don’t think it’s a good idea

  23. When you’re trying to generate some ideas, don’t discuss them until after everyone has had a chance to list his/her ideas…then discuss them

  24. If you’re leading a brainstorming session, you’re not supposed to make a comment every time someone says something…wait for your turn

  25. 3-2-1 Vote Ranking • Each member writes down 1st, 2nd, and 3rdchoices • Scores are posted in round robin order • Score scheme: • 1stChoice = 3 Points • 2ndChoice = 2 Points • 3rdChoice = 1 Point • Scores are tabulated; • Discussion follows, leading to consensus.

  26. 10-4 Technique Rule 1: Each member gets 10 points Rule 2: You can’t spend more than 4 points per choice Rule 3: You can’t have more than 4 choices Collect scores by round robin Tabulate scores Discussion follows; leading to consensus

  27. Alabama 5-3-1 • Each member votes on every item on the list • Members are restricted in their scoring and have to vote a 5, 3, or 1 on each item. (No other numbers) where: • 5 = high preference, • 3 = medium preference, and • 1 = low or no preference. • Discuss how close the team is (or is not) to a consensus
