Purpose of MCAS testing • To inform and improve instruction • To evaluate student, school and district performance according to the Mass Curriculum Frameworks and MCAS performance standards • To determine if students have met competency determination requirements
Statewide Results Highlights • Overall improvement in ELA – percentage of students scoring proficient/advanced increased by 2-6% in 3 of 7 tests • Overall improvement in Math – percentage of students scoring proficient/advanced increased by 1-5% in 5 of 7 tests • Number of 10th graders scoring Proficient/Advanced on Math and ELA testing has nearly doubled since the state’s graduation requirement was enforced • More than half of all seventh and eighth graders scored proficient or advanced in Math • Improvements in minority subgroups – narrowing achievement gap in math and ELA
Woburn Results Highlights • District and School Accountability – level designation (improvement from Level 3 to Level 2) • Schools commended for Exiting Accountability Status: • Clapp-Goodyear (ELA) • Malcolm White (ELA) • Woburn Memorial High School (Math) • All eight elementary schools made AYP in math
Calendar of events – Release of data/information • Sept 14 – DESE release of AYP and MCAS results (school and district level) • Sept 14 – DESE release of school and district accountability status data • Sept 17 – DESE meeting regarding AYP and accountability data • Week of Sept 14 – individual student reports received from DESE • Week of Sept 20 – distribution of student reports • Next school committee meeting – AYP/MCAS presentation
