  1. Cheetah By Jillian Gass

  2. Habitats They live in the southern deserts of Africa. They need an environment with bushes, tall grass and other large plants in order to hide from predators.

  3. Diet A cheetah is a carnivore. It likes small animals and hunts in the morning and late afternoon. A mother will capture an animal for her young to practice killing. It knocks its prey to the ground and then bites its throat.

  4. Predators A cheetah’s worst predator is a lion. Cubs are captured and killed because they are not fast enough to get away. Brush fires are also a great danger to cheetahs.

  5. Family They have a mom and cubs. A female raises her cubs alone since adult male and female cheetahs mix only to mate. She has 3 – 4 cubs per litter. Usually 2 or 3 cheetah males, often brothers, will form a family. This small group will live and hunt together for life.

  6. Facts Their height is 3 feet, length 3-5 feet, and weight 110-140 pounds. Females are smaller then males. Their life spanis 10 - 12 years. Their top speed is about 60-70 mph.

  7. Favorite Fact Their top speed is about 60-70 mph. This is the fastest mammal on land. The name cheetah comes from an Indian word meaning "spotted one."
