  3. Basic Steps • Find an interesting technical article • Study the article • Find 2-3 related articles • Study those articles • Form an opinion about the article • Write your opinion, referencing articles • Cite all the sources

  4. Big Picture • Evaluating other peoples’ work • Offering an informed opinion • Making a logical argument to support opinion • Demonstrating technical competence • Doing it in writing

  5. Evaluating others’ work • Cite their work properly • Analyze the technical aspects • Summarize their research and findings • Situate their work in industry • Be clear what idea comes from whom

  6. Sections • Abstract • Intro • Methods • Results • Ethical Implications • Conclusion • References

  7. Requirements • 2 ½ to 3 pages • Uses IEEE format, modified: DS, one column • Cites at least three articles • Actually analyzes primary article • Explains technology in understandable way • Makes a logical argument • Uses correct grammar, spelling, punctuation

  8. Logistics • Submit hardcopy in class • Submit .DOC file in Canvas by 5pm due date • First draft due 2 weeks before presentation • Final draft due 1 week after presentation • Graded by Heather Stone • Each draft worth 15% of grade Reminder: Assignment sheet on course web site.
