  1. LEVEL D WRITING WEEK 1 INTRODUCTION TO ESSAY

  2. A GOOD ESSAY; • has a strong topic, • has a specific purpose, • is written for a specific audience. WHAT IS AN ESSAY?

  3. purpose Every essay has a purpose such as; • explaining or discussing a topic and giving a personal opinion, • Identifying a problem and its causes, and proposing a solution, • Comparing and contrasting two or more things • Persuade the reader to hold a certain opinion • Demonstrating understanding or writing skills by writing a times essay in class

  4. When you write an essay, someone is going to read it; your audience. When you write your essay, identify your audience. Naturally, your instructor is one part of your audience. If your classmates will read your paper, they are also your audience. In addition, your instructor might ask you to imagine another audience; for example, a government official, the readers of your school newspaper. Think about what they might already know about the topic. Do they need any background information? Do they know a lot or a little about your topic? Do they have opinions about your topic? If so, are those opinions likely to be the same as or different from your own? AUDIENCE

  5. INTRODUCTION BODY (THREE PARAGRAPHS) CONCLUSION PARTS OF AN ESSAY

  6. INTRODUCTION • This part is one of the most important parts of an essay. • Since writers state the main idea of an essay in this part, this part should be presented in an attractive way. • In an introduction, there are three parts: • the hook • Background information • thesis statement SO IT’S SIMILAR TO the INTRODUCTION of short composıtıon 

  7. FOR EXAMPLE; TOPIC: Talk about the qualities that make the dogs ideal pets.

  8. Dogs are often called “man’s best friend.”(hook)There are countless movies and novels about the bonds between man and dog, including Marley and Me, White Fang,Old Yeller, and Lassie. It is not surprising that lots of people address their dogs as their sons or daughters.(background information) Loyalty, protective nature, and ability to be trained are the most important features of the dogs that make dogs ideal pets.(thesis statement (topic + specific vocabulary + three things) INTRODUCTION

  9. There ARE THREE BODY PARAGRAPHS in an essay, so it is different from the body of the short composition. BODY

  10. The first quality of a dog is its faith in its owner and its loyalty. They always greet us when we come home and they will never leave us even in a hopeless situation. For example, there was a very sick man and his dog barked and barked until the rescue team arrived. This dog saved its owner’s life. 1st BODY PARAGPARH ; (1st Point)TRANSITION+ 1st TOPIC SENTENCESUPPORTING SENTENCES(explanation/details/examples)

  11. Besides being loyal, dogs are strong animals that will protect us. Houses with dogs are considered much safer than even those with burglar alarms. Not only will they stop thieves, but they will also guard against fire. For instance, there was a serious fire and a dog managed to pull its owner out. 2ndBODY PARAGPARH ; (2nd Point)TRANSITION+ 2nd TOPIC SENTENCESUPPORTING SENTENCES(explanation/details/examples)

  12. The most attractive quality of a dog is that dogs can be trained to help people. Dogs can do a number of things that people cannot. For example, they can sniff out drugs, find bodies, illicit DVDs and hunt down prisoners. They’re also used to help the elderly and disabled. 3rd BODY PARAGPARH ; (3rd Point)TRANSITION+ 3rd TOPIC SENTENCESUPPORTING SENTENCES(explanation/details/examples)

  13. The conclusion of the essay is similar to the conclusion of the composition. Therefore, you have; TRANSITION RESTATEMENT of the thesis statement SUMMARY of the body paragraphs CLOSURE CONCLUSION

  14. To sum up, dogs are really friendly, civilized and loyal companions. (RESTATEMENT)Everyone feels joy when Lassie rescues Timmy and everyone feels sadness when Old Yeller sacrifices himself to protect his owner. (SUMMARY)Everyone should take the chance to build a fulfilling relationship, like one of these, with a dog.(CLOSURE) FOR EXAMPLE;
