  5. Information about your position • Position description • Full-time position • Your staff • Assistant Managers (1 or 2) • Clerks (2 to 4) • Dates building will be used • Time away

  6. Expectations • Communication; attend meetings, e-mail, checking-in with Chris & your Intern Supervisor • Consult with colleagues • Maintain active, positive and professional relationships with program directors, building services staff and others • Be available/be accessible • Complete administrative tasks in a timely and efficient manner • Provide feedback and supervision to Assistant Hall Managers, Resident Assistants, and Desk Clerks

Hall Manager…as teacher • Setting expectations and goals • Building tours, meet and greets with program counselors, building services staff, etc. • Develop job checklists • Develop protocols for tracking desk clerk hours/doing rounds/use of master key • Follow-up with staff after training sessions, informational emails, etc.

  8. Hall Manager…as supervisor • Weekly staff meetings with your staff • Delegate assignments • Keep staff informed and provide resources to do the job • Monitor to make sure the job is done correctly • Provide constructive feedback and thanks • Provide a “work” or “team” office space

  9. Hall Manager…as motivator How can you motivate and recognize staff members? • Encourage team work • Keep staff members informed • Empower staff to make suggestions and take ownership in tasks • Recognize and reward

  10. Preparing for your position • Develop written expectations for your staff • Prepare to meet your staff at staff training (May 31 and June 1)…or sooner! • Coordinate Senior Week moving for your staff members • Attend weekly Hall Manager meetings in the Housing Office • Plan some staff team building activities • Mandatory Fun Time!
