Major Objectives • Stick with you CMP POW for at least four years • Should meet a Macro need at the SEEC level • Establish a gap with a longitudinal or cross-sectional comparison • Are measured by the accumulation of meeting annual objectives and by reducing the “Gap” • Should be brief and get straight to the point
Potential Major Objectives • To increase the percentage of homeowners in Big City County from 51% to 76% (the state average). This is the best one • To increase the number of approved low to moderate income mortgage applications from 30% to 37.5 % (State Department of Housing Estimate of improvement if simple steps are taken by the applicants). • To have banks loan at least 40% of the value of their holdings to local residents
Annual Objectives • Should relate logically to the major objective • Should meet the micro needs of the macro need • Should provide specific Audience, Behaviors, Criteria, and Degree • Should last approximately one year • Should be focused on behavior change
Annual Objectives • Behaviors must be very specific or they can not be measured during the evaluation phase • When behaviors are specific it indicates exactly what should be taught in the activities section which comes later in the Plan of Work
Annual Objectives • If a behavior has the word “attend” in it then it is probably an activity • You should specify exactly what you want your audience to do as a result of “attending” • Attendance is a weak objective and does not focus on behavior change • Focus on what you want the audience to be able to do
ABCs • For (85%) of (200 County Employees) to make at least (2 changes in their lifestyle habits) such as: • Alter diet to meet dietary guidelines for Americans • Evaluate ingredient and/or food labels for healthy choices • Choose healthier foods when eating out • Initiate an appropriate exercise routine • Use healthy ingredient substitutions Degree AUDIENCE CRITERIA BEHAVIOR
Annual Objectives—Not Specific • For 49% of non-homeowners in Big City County to do the following: • Clean up their credit rating • Manage credit cards and debt better • Learn how to economize
Annual Objectives—Much Better—Increase Mortgage Approvals Degree Audience • For (half) of the (low to moderate income mortgage applicants) in Big City County (to take all of the following actions): • Check their credit report before applying for a mortgage, do not apply if credit score is below 740 • Correct any errors by disputing incorrect information • Close inactive accounts that appear on the report • If there are any late payments reported, wait 6 months while making all payments on-time Criteria B e h a v i o r
Annual Objectives—Much Better—Managing Credit and Debt Degree Audience • For (half) of the (low to moderate income non-homeowners) in Big City County (to do at least two of the following behaviors): • Consolidate high interest debt to low interest accounts • Make payments that are larger than the monthly minimum • Stop all non-emergency credit spending until accounts are paid off--If you carry a balance to the next month, stop using the card • Limit future credit spending to less than half of all discretionary spending and pay off accounts monthly Criteria B e h a v i o r
Annual Objectives—Much Better—Economizing (living on a budget) Degree Audience • For (half) of the (low to moderate income non-homeowners) in Big City County (to do at least two of the following behaviors): • Develop a family budget and use it for one year • Limit eating out by packing lunches • Replace most entertainment expenses with recreation activities • Open and contributing to a savings account Criteria B e h a v i o r
