  1. The Three Components of Relationships

  2. Intimacy • The first component, is being close to someone and sharing personal things with them.

  3. Passion • The second component, is strong emotional feelings that move you to express them physically, verbally, etc.

  4. Commitment • The third component, is pledging yourself to another, promising to be true and faithful.

  5. FYI’s • These three components are not necessarily levels and nor do they have a particular order to them. Some relationships contain all three components; others may just have one or two. • They are intermingled and grow together, with each component contributing to the growth of other components.

  6. Teenage relationships are setting the stage for mate selection at a later date. • Dating gives the opportunity to get to know a wide variety of individuals so that you know what type of person you want to marry. • It also provides a way by which a person can practice relating to people and polish social skills. • You also learn how to be the type of person that will attract others. These skills are used throughout life.

  7. Affection • What is affection? • What affection have you experienced today? (hugs, kiss, high-five, etc.) • What are some possible ways to show affection whether you are attracted to a person or not?

  8. Some Ideas. . . • Spending time with someone • Giggling with a friend • Sitting together on the bus • Helping someone with a project or homework • Sharing secret feelings • Talking on the phone • Writing a poem or note • Giving a gift • Smiling at each other • Holding hands • Kissing • Hugging/embracing

  9. Reminder> >> • There are many ways to express loving feelings • Many can be done without actually having romantic feelings towards someone- could just be friendship! • Physical Intimacy is a way of showing affection– but what are some other ways to show your significant other you love them?
