  1. Harris Road Middle School Rising 6th Grade Parent/Student Information

  2. Welcome to Harris Road Middle School! As Harris Road Patriots, we have many accomplishments to celebrate: • Ranked the top 5% in the state for EOG growth for the 2017-18 school year. • 12th straight year of being recognized for exceeding expected growth. • We have a full complement of student athletics with consistent winning records including regular season and tournament championships every year. • We have thriving performing arts programs who compete at the district level each year and consistently earn Superior ratings.

AIG Placements All advanced class placements decisions are made utilizing the Cabarrus County School District policy. • Placement Criteria • AIG Reading Identification • OR • 5th Grade EOG 80%tile or higher • (or on nationally normed reading test) ALPS Guidelines Advanced Language Placement AMPS Guidelines Advanced Math Placement • Placement Criteria • AIG Math Identification • OR • 5th Grade EOG 80%tile or higher • (or on nationally normed reading test)

  4. Encore Registration

Encore Registration • Rising 6th Grade students are provided with information about Encore offerings and given guidance in completing their Encore Registration Forms. • Counselor visit to the Elementary School • Student visit to HRMS • All 6th Grade students are required to take Global Studies. • Band and Chorus are year long classes. Each requires participation in 2 evening performances. • Students who are registering for Band must attend the sign-up meeting at HRMS with the band director. This is important because it is the time for students to choose their instruments. • Cox Mill and Boger Students: Tuesday, April 9th from 5-7:00 pm • Odell and Furr Students: Thursday, April 11 5-7:00 pm • Registrations should be turned in to the elementary schools tomorrow, April 5th.

  6. Buses • Bus Ridership Forms should have been sent home from your current school on April 1st. They are due to the elementary school by April 12th. • Bus assignments will be provided at Open House in the Fall. • Should your address change over the summer, parents will need to fill out a Change of Address form at the Harris Road Main Office. Change of Address forms will be available after July 1st. Changes must be made prior to August 2nd to guarantee the correct bus pass by the start of the year. • Contact Sherry Lee for questions or concerns.

  7. Upcoming Events • Registration forms due to current elementary school: tomorrow Friday, April 5th. • Summer Before 6th Camp. This is an optional, half day camp that will help prepare students for middle school. Camp will be held on Wednesday, August 14th. Students will need to sign up for either the morning or the afternoon session. Parents will receive information on how to register in May. • Open House: Wednesday, August 21th, 4:30-6:30pm
