  1. CPAC MBA Collaboration Project Matt Hallingstad  Ejike Anih  Siddharth Sureka mini-update 02.23.2011

  2. Background • Inefficiencies at the CPAC: • Sample collection from PIs • Communication with PIs • Data transfer • Administrative laboratory management

  3. Recommendations • Short term: • Implement effective website communication • Improve consultation form • Hire Administrative Assistant • Long term: • Implement IT System to help manage the process

  4. Short Term Recommendations • Implement effective website communication: • Websiteimprovements will clearly present CPAC’s value proposition and better manage PI expectations (incl. turn-around times).

  5. Sample Website Improvement ORIGINAL: Access to state-of-the-art instrumentation for quantification of drugs and metabolites is an invaluable resource for all cancer investigators in the IUSCC. The core has two of these instruments (HPLC-MS/MS; API 4000 and API 3200) for drug quantification.  In addition to the two HPLC-MS/MS’s, the core facilities have access to additional HPLC systems (equipped with UV, fluorescent, or other detectors) that may be used for routine analyses.  • IMPROVED: • Quantification of Compounds; Development Of Quantification Methods • CPAC performs quantification of drugs and metabolites with three state-of-the-art instruments: • Applied Biosystems API 3200 LC/MS/MS; • Applied Biosystems API 4000 LC/MS/MS; and • Thermo Scientific HPLC/MS/MS. • In addition to the HPLC/MS/MS’s, CPAC has access to HPLC systems equipped with UV, fluorescence, and other detectors that may be used for routine analyses.

  6. Short Term Recommendations • Improve consultation form: • The improved consultation form will capture key parameters required for efficient sample intake, and will convey information regarding expected turnaround times.

  7. Short Term Recommendations • Hire Administrative Assistant: • Part-time laboratory manager will facilitate intake of samples, coordinate communication with PIs, manage supplies and ordering, thereby allowing lab technicians to focus on core responsibilities.

  8. Long Term Recommendations • Implement IT System to help manage the process: • A comprehensive IT system will minimize process and operational inefficiencies by providing easy-to-use interface. It will also facilitate timely communication with PIs, reinforcing CPAC’s position as a state-of-the-art pharmacokinetic Core.
