Air Pollution • Air Pollution is defined as the contamination of the atmosphere by the introduction of pollutants from human and natural sources. • Air pollutants are classified according to their source as either primary pollutants or secondary pollutants.
Air Pollution • Primary pollutants are put directly in the air by human or natural activity (examples: dust, pollen, smoke and vehicle exhaust). • Secondary pollutants are pollutants that form when primary pollutants react with other primary pollutants or with naturally occurring substances, such as water vapor (examples: ozone and smog).
