  1. Welcome to Fifth Grade! Oak Hill Open House

  2. About the Teacher • Deanna Barton • 17thyear in the EVSC • Taught 7th grade math, 8th grade algebra, and grades 3 , 4, 5, and 6 • BS from USI in Elementary Ed with Middle School Math and Social Studies • Completed Master’s degree in 2007 • Married with three children

  3. Communication • I use email primarily for communication with parents. • Newsletters will be sent weekly by email. • Please check student planners nightly. • Check RDS regularly- I update daily. • Teacher website: • http://bartonwildcats.weebly.com/index.html • Email: deanna.barton@evsc.k12.in.us

  4. Student and Parent Information • If you have not already, please take time to access and complete the Student and Parent Information form through the link below. • The form will be available Monday at Open House for parents to access and complete.

  5. Homework • Expect homework most nights Mon-Thur. • Homework should be completed by the student with minimal parent help. • Homework should take about 30-45 minutes to complete. • Students should practice math facts regularly. • Students should be reading daily at home. • Check my website for awesome links to extend learning

  6. Curriculum • I will be teaching your children Social Studies, math, and English and Language Arts • The curriculum covers both Indiana and Common Core standards . • Ms. Sinclair will be teaching science.

  7. Tests/Quizzes • Math : Quizzes every Friday, Unit tests announced in the Weekly Newsletter • Reading: Tests/quizzes will be announced in the Classroom Newsletter (probably every two weeks) • Spelling: Weekly tests on Thursdays • Grammar: Tests/quizzes will be announced in the Classroom Newsletter (probably every three weeks) • Social studies: Tests/quizzes will be announced in the Classroom Newsletter

  8. Grading Scale • A 94-100% • B 84-93% • C 74-83% • D 64-73% • F 63% and below

  11. RDS http://rdsteach.evsc.k12.in.us/rdsparentaccess/ • I use RDS as my primary contact for grades and student behaviors. • Please check RDS on a regular basis to track student progress. • If internet access is a problem, please send a note so that I can provide printed progress reports.

  12. Volunteers • All adults planning to visit school or attend class field trips must complete the EVSC volunteer application. It must be completed yearly. • Access the volunteer application at: • http://www.evscschools.com/community/volunteer-information

Class Rules for Students 1) Follow directions the first time they are given. 2) Raise your hand and wait for permission to speak. 3) Stay in your assigned seat unless given permission by the teacher to move around the room. 4) Keep hands, feet and objects to yourself. 5) Use appropriate language. No name-calling, teasing or swearing.

  14. Consequences Rewards • Name on board- Warning • Checkmark - 10 minutes of recess • Two checkmarks – Lose Recess, parent contact • Three checkmarks- Time-out, parent contact • Next Step- Office Referral • Verbal praise • Treasure box • Computer time • Class FROG points • FROG time • Positive note home
