  2. S + V The boy ran under the bridge. The student screamed at the teacher in the lunchroom. A dog peed on the lawn across the street. The baby cried on the way to the doctor.

  3. Direct Objects DIRECT OBJECTS: • Take the action of the verb and answer WHAT? The dog ate--- ATE WHAT? his food. Food is the DIRECT OBJECT. • Are ALWAYS nouns or pronouns • CANNOT be objects of the preposition or predicate nouns

  4. S + AV + DO The boy hit the dog. Lisa watched TV all night. Jay threw the ball to the referee.

  5. Find the direct object. • Andrew watched the movie on Net Flix. • He learned Algebra in the third grade. • I followed Mary on Twitter. • He read the story to his little sister. • They jumped the cliff on their bikes. • Andrea told the class about her vacation. • The boy took the bubble gum off the counter.

  6. S + AV + IO + DO The teacher gave the student his grade. Julie showed him the bill. I made David dinner.

  7. Let’s Practice Mrs. Giles gave me the vocabulary test. I handed her the notes for next week. She tossed me the key to her classroom. I asked her the question about this weekend. Principal Erwin gave him Friday night school.
