Free Condoms Service … • Aims: • To provide free condoms across NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde to people who need them • Prevention of HIV • Prevention of sexually transmitted infections • Prevention of unintended pregnancy • Primary Objectives: • Increase availability of condoms • Remove barriers to accessing condoms • Normalise condom access
How it works… • Open access distribution – access to everyone e.g. pharmacies • Limited access distribution – access may be limited to organisation or institution e.g. colleges/universities, GP surgeries • Private – Condoms/lubricant provided to specific populations e.g. organisations working with men and women involved in prostitution (not published on the website). • For service users – No personal details • For distributors – Easy to administer • Simple transaction for all

Under 16s • Free Condoms are available to 13 – 15 year olds. • All interactions with 13-15 year olds to include ‘delay’ messages. • All services to have a child protection policy in place. • All ‘open access’ services are expected to offer a service to 13-15 year olds.

Assessing the risks…stage 2 Check if the young person is currently sexually active: Not sexually active/not planning to have sex soon • opportunity to discuss their sexual health • if no concerns, provide with a ‘single’ pack Sexually active or planning to have sex soon • further discussion – see Stage 3.
Assessing the risks…stage 3 If young person is currently sexually active consider: • The age of the young person vs. the age of their partner • Is this a consensual relationship • What is the length of relationship • Are parents aware of the relationship • What was the age of 1st sexual experience • How many previous sexual partners • Are there any risks regarding exploitation/ coercion
